An Earthly Townie: Jennifer Shields
Jennifer Shields, Class of 2009, Watertown CT
What are you up to? I graduated from UConn in 2013 and 2014, first with my Bachelor's in animal science and second with my Masters in curriculum and instruction. I student taught in animal science at Southington High School and was hired to continue there. I also work on a farm in town and have recently started my own soap-making business (the Bubbly Duck Soap Co) which is taking off faster than I can keep up with.
How'd you get here? WHS and Watertown was a great base for me. I learned organizational and leadership skills through outside activities, and I started to learn how to manage my time and maintain high grades while keeping up with extra curricular activities. I still talk to many of my teachers to this day, and they have been a huge help and support through my journey.
What are your goals? Expand my soap-making business, go back to school for my administrative degree, and continue doing competitive horseback riding.
Advice for WHS students?: Stay true to who you are. Don't procrastinate. Find a way to do what you want. Always act professionally, you never know who you will meet or what opportunities are there for you.
What is your fav. thing to do on Friday night? Go on a horseback trail ride or play polo.
